Vitamins, Fat Soluble And Water-Soluble, Essential Nutrients

Your body is able of doing all sorts of things by itself. There is one thing that it can’t do, and that is produce Vitamins, which are essential nutrients. To absorb fat-soluble Vitamins, you body has to use bile acids.

As different foods contain different Vitamins we need a varied, balanced diet for our body’s to be able to get the nutrients it requires. It is important to know that choosing to take supplements can cause harmful effects if taken too much or if they are taken for to long.

There are two types of vitamins: fat-soluble and water-soluble

Fat soluble Vitamins:

Foods that contain fat-soluble vitamins such as animal fats, dairy foods, vegetable oils as well as liver and oily fish are stored in the fat tissues in your body and also in your liver. Your body doesn’t need these vitamins all at once, so it stores them for future use. Fat-soluble Vitamins can be harmful, if you have far more than required.

> Vitamin D
> Vitamin E
> Vitamin K

Water-soluble Vitamins:

Foods that contain water-soluble Vitamins are different. These Vitamins are easily digestible and they do not store in your body, therefore you have to have them more frequently. Water-soluble Vitamins travel through your bloodstream and usually aren’t harmful, as they are removed by the kidneys and passed out when you urinate.

You can find water-soluble Vitamins in grains, fruit and vegetables. Be aware that water-soluble Vitamins can be destroyed by heat, by exposure to the air as well as being lost in the process of cooking, especially boiling. Personally I find that to keep much of the water-soluble Vitamins it is best to grill or steam them.
