Spring sometimes happens at Easter

Easter is just around the corner and with it comes a special British Tradition. Thousands of people will make it to the garden centres to buy plants, only to return home, where they will stick them in the ground, planting hope and making wishes over them. And don’t we all wish for the same hoping that they keep alive for a few weeks.

Most make the same ‘mistake’. In our enthusiasm to get things growing, we pay to much attention to the calendar. Dates don’t really tell us anything. They don’t tell us what is really going on outside in REAL life. Easter really is no proof that spring has arrived.

It is better to ignore the calendar and before planting anything simply go outside and ask yourself if you feel that the days are actually warmer. Is the soil softer? Less water-logged? And is it more friable or does it still stick to your wellies? Sometimes it is better to listen to your inner voice, to your instincts and not to pay to much attention to the garden label.

Before the start of spring there will always most certainly be a calm, sunny day and sometimes it happens to be Easter. When you can “smell” changes in the air, that is when Spring is happening.
