Earth Hour 2008 | Make a Difference, Turn Off Your Lights
Global Warming is having devastating effects all over the world.
The Earth Hour event in Sydney, Australia on 31 March 2007 brought together families, Global Companies, Schools, Football Clubs, Restaurants, Musicians, Religious Groups and Hollywood Stars. Social activism took hold… it entered popular culture. Social activism led to corporate action. 2100 corporations joined the movement. 2.2 Million people turned off their lights. 10.2% energy reduction in the city (target 5%). That’s an equivalent to taking 48,000 cars off the road. What began as one city taking a stand caught the attention of the world. Within 72 hours HUNDREDS of articles. In 2008 Earth Hour goes global.
Earth Hour has been created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced. It is our collective stand against the greatest thread our planet has ever faced and it uses the simple action of switching off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming. It is that simple, BUT… Powerful!
Millions of people all over the world including some of the major cities such as Copenhagen, Chicago, Toronto, Sidney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv, Singapore and Manila will unite and switch off their lights. Join them in their action at 8pm, on March 29th, 2008.
