Are Your Excuses Stopping You?

Are Your Excuses Stopping You?

2008! Another year is here and THIS year, DEFINITELY!! I’m going to follow through on my promises to myself.

Does this sound familiar?
I know what I need to do. I know what I’m supposed to do. I know what I want to do in order to achieve my goals. So what is stopping you? It’s obvious, the answer is self-discipline. I tell you a secret! Self-discipline is surprisingly easy! You can do it too. If you look at high-achieving people, they have all done it.

Do you have the job you want? … the money you want? … the body you want? … the relationship you want? …Are you where you want to be? … where you dreamed you would be? …Do you have the life you want?

Your dreams and your desires are important because they are yours and if your answer is NO to all of the above questions, I know exactly why you don’t.

It’s your excuses! They are keeping you from getting it. Excuses like… I just don’t have the time… If only I had the money… It’s to hard… I’m always to busy… I just can’t help it… It seems that nothing ever works for me…….by having these and other thoughts running through your mind and being confronted with the things you don’t have but want, you are in the same category and have the same problem as millions of average people living average lives have. It’s your excuses. They talk you out of your dreams, your desires, your goals.

Stop thinking that it is difficult to acquire. That it is impossible to maintain. I am telling you, stop making excuses and start getting what you want. I am talking about self-discipline. It’s the key to any kind of success. Have the power to do the things you have to do in order to get what it is you want and you will achieve it.

You can absolutely BE, DO, and HAVE ANYTHING in life… it starts with the simple step of getting clear on what you really want.

Have the life you always wanted!

Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

Would you like to live a life free of fear and anger? Would you rather have a life filled with deep peace and joy? If the answer to the second question is yes, then follow the simple instructions in this wonderful book. The Power of Now, written in 1997, has proven to be one of the greatest spiritual books written. It contains a power that goes beyond words. Through a series of questions and answers Eckhart Tolle’s demonstrates that by living fully in the present moment, in the now, we can learn to control the restless mind – the ego – and tap into our true nature, a nature of divine peace and joy. Though one will still be aware of the ups and downs of everyday life, these will just be ripples on the surface of the endless ocean of peace in which we dwell.

Tolle’s message is straight to the point and simple – living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. To some this message may not seem overly fresh or new, but Tolle’s precise writing, supportiveness and enthusiasm make this an excellent guide for anyone who’s ever wondered what ‘living in the now’ really means.

The present moment is often neglected in the rush of daily life. Clear and engaging philosophies, using examples to back them up, on how to make the most of the present, to forgive, to let go, and not become weighed down in subconscious thought processes, inflated egocentricity, or past problems, or stressing constantly about the future are presented by Tolle. Seemingly complicated concepts are explained in concrete language. Within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already viewing the world in a new way – they are far more conscious of how their thoughts and emotions obstruct their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness.

This is a very useful and illuminating read, containing a lot of information and inspirational ideas, highlighting many sound ways to achieve a happier and more contented life, through question and answer based chapters and general discussion. Within The Power of Now, are to be found topics covering the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence and the cycle of life.

There are also markers in the book which indicate ‘break time’, when readers should put the book aside and ponder what they just read.

Being in Charge of Your Life is a Matter of Attitude

Being in Charge of Your Life is a Matter of Attitude

Don’t we all dwell on situations that come up in our lives? But being compelled to think about a situation means that the situation has control over you. If you do not have to think about it, than it is you who controls it. I think that being in charge of your life is a matter of attitude.

Have you ever noticed that everyone you meet will try to get you to think for them, make decisions for them. Just you be aware that they are shoving it on to you. And in the end you will not only think for yourself, you will, as a conscious project, “think” for others.

An incident happens and you give it permission to grow and assume great importance. You get carried away by this incident and it appears that you are moving forward in a definite direction. Than the force weakens and you become anxious as you feel that in your delusion you are losing your sense of direction. There you go, you latch onto the next negative force. That is the moment when you think “such is my day”… Be aware of this and make a conscious decision to rather go through the strain and pain of NOT getting carried away.

Paul Karason, The Man Who Turned Blue

Paul Karason, The Man Who Turned Blue

Paul Karason, now 57, developed a case of dermatitis about 14 years ago. He decided to use Colloidal Silver as a treatment and drank the solution and rubbed it on his skin for many years.

Colloidal Silver is made by extracting silver from metal and in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration the treatment is not considered safe or even effective. Paul Karason’s skin turned blue and he has been living with it for over a decade. There is no cure and he has to live with blue skin for the rest of his life.

By many the remedy has been praised as a cure for all for about any illness, disease and any health problem there is. It has also been said that Colloidal Silver does none of this. In fact, there is a condition called “Argyria”, where after ingesting the liquid the skin, nails and gums show a blue-gray discolouration. .

If an old friend of Karason wouldn’t have asked what he had done, he said he didn’t even realize it was happening, as the changed happened so gradually. It seems that Karason suffers from “Argyria”, which is irreversible and linked to Colloidal Silver.

Some other potential side-effects of Colloidal Silver include:

è Neurological problems
è Seizures
è Indigestion
è Kidney damage
è Skin irritation
è Headaches
è Fatigue

Karason is still drinking small amounts of Colloidal Silver and has not sought medical attention for his skin discolouration. He says, “I do tend to avoid public places as much as I can.”

Because of the change of his skin colour, Karason has moved from Oregon to California seeking acceptance.

Man’s skin turns dark blue

Viola’s comment:
Colloidal Silver is commonly used in hospitals in the treatment of wounds and also burns. It has many antibacterial properties. It is even available in the form of a silver bandage from “Curad”. According to Curad, the bandage company:

“Laboratory testing showed that silver reduced bacterial growth like Staph. aureaus, E. coli, E. hirae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa — a powerful germ that does not respond to many antibacterials — in the dressing for 24 hours.”

To kill bacteria, silver ions are even used in washing machines now.

Studies show that silver-coated urinary catheters are used to help reduce urinary tract infections. Incidences of UTI are reduced by 47%. Silver-coated urinary catheters are more expensive, but reduce the cost overall. Not to forget, Colloidal Silver has been used internally as a natural antibiotic.

The internet is a very popular place for the purchase of Colloidal Silver and you must be very careful with contaminated versions, counterfeit or sub-par.

For sure Colloidal Silver has some benefits, but to me Paul Karason’s blue-gray skin discolouration is a very important reminder that even natural remedies as well as treatments could carry side effects and that taking large amounts of any supplement, can throw your body out of balance.

Personally, I have taken Colloidal Silver myself and found it very helpful. It has been given to me by a friend who is a knowledgeable natural health therapist. I would strongly recommend informing yourself before ingesting anything you are not familiar with.

Dave Barry – Words of Wisdom

Dave Barry – Words of Wisdom

Dave Barry is a humour columnist. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than over 500 newspapers in the United States as well as abroad. In 1988 Dave won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary and he has also written a total of 30 books.

You may have already come across some of the quotes below, but for those who haven’t, I thought I share them.

1. The badness of a movie is directly proportional to the number of helicopters in it.

2. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight-saving time.

3. People who feel the need to tell you that they have an excellent sense of humour are telling you that they have no sense of humour.

4. The most valuable function performed by the federal government is entertainment.

5. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests you think she’s pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

6. A penny saved is worthless.

7. They can hold all the peace talks they want, but there will never be peace in the Middle East. Billions of years from now, when Earth is hurtling toward the Sun and there is nothing left alive on the planet except a few micro-organisms, the micro-organisms living in the Middle East will be bitter enemies.

8. The most powerful force in the universe is gossip.

9. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers.

10. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age 11.

11. There is a very fine line between “hobby” and “mental illness.”

12. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

13. There apparently exists, somewhere in Los Angeles , a computer that generates concepts for television sitcoms. When TV executives need a new concept, they turn on this computer; after sorting through millions of possible plot premises, it spits out, “THREE QUIRKY BUT ATTRACTIVE YOUNG PEOPLE LIVING IN AN APARTMENT,” and the executives turn this concept into a show. The next time they need an idea, the computer spits out, “SIX QUIRKY BUT ATTRACTIVE YOUNG PEOPLE LIVING IN AN APARTMENT.” Then the next time, it spits out, “FOUR QUIRKY BUT ATTRACTIVE YOUNG PEOPLE LIVING IN AN APARTMENT.” And so on. We need to locate this computer and destroy it with hammers.

14. Nobody is normal.

15. At least once per year, some group of scientists will become very excited and announce that:
>> The universe is even bigger than they thought!
>> There are even more subatomic particles than they thought!
>> Whatever they announced last year about global warming is wrong.

16. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be “meetings.”

17. The main accomplishment of almost all organized protests is to annoy people who are not in them.

18. The value of advertising is that it tells you the exact opposite of what the advertiser actually thinks. For example:
>> If the advertisement says “This is not your father’s Oldsmobile,” the advertiser is desperately concerned that this Oldsmobile, like all other Oldsmobile’s, appeals primarily to old farts like your father.
>> If Coke and Pepsi spend billions of dollars to convince you that there are significant differences between these two products, both companies realize that Pepsi and Coke are virtually identical.
>> If the advertisement strongly suggests that Nike shoes enable athletes to perform amazing feats, Nike wants you to disregard the fact that shoe brand is unrelated to athletic ability.
>> If Budweiser runs an elaborate advertising campaign stressing the critical importance of a beer’s “born-on” date, Budweiser knows this factor has virtually nothing to do with how good a beer tastes.

19. If there really is a God who created the entire universe with all of its glories, and He decides to deliver a message to humanity, He will not use, as His messenger, a person on cable TVwith a bad hairstyle.

20. You should not confuse your career with your life.

21. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person.

22. No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.

23. When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.

24. Your friends love you anyway.

25. Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.

26. You can only be young once. But you can always be immature.

27. I can win an argument on any topic, against any opponent. People know this, and steer clear of me at parties. Often, as a sign of their great respect, they don’t even invite me.

28. Never under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

29. Magnetism is one of the Six Fundamental Forces of the Universe, with the other five being Gravity, Duct Tape, Whining, Remote Control, and The Force That Pulls Dogs Toward The Groins Of Strangers.

30. What Women Want: To be loved, to be listened to, to be desired, to be respected, to be needed, to be trusted, and sometimes, just to be held. What Men Want: Tickets for the world series.

31. The problem with writing about religion is that you run the risk of offending sincerely religious people, and then they come after you with machetes.

32. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

33. If you have a big enough dictionary, just about everything is a word.

Diagnosed With a Disease or Illness?

Diagnosed With a Disease or Illness?

By Viola Woolcott

What would you do if you were told by your doctor that you were ill, if you had a dis-ease?

Personally, I would face the “bad” news with strength and a positive attitude about myself as well as life.

Of course some people get upset and it is OK to be upset. Feel the feelings you experience about the “not so pleasant” news. There is a very good possibility that you (as well as feeling upset), also feel angry… afraid… confused… discouraged, sad, and yes, even lost. I’d say, for 24 hours you can feel as emotional as you like. Take the whole day to be upset if you must, but than read and follow the tough-minded and effective advice below. They will for sure make a difference.

Lets say for an example you were diagnosed with diabetes? Most people don’t know much about diabetes at all. Education is important, so educate yourself, and do not get depressed. Find out what treatments are available, what the symptoms are and especially how to live with your diagnosis as well as how long it may take. Educating yourself will give you power, will take away your fears and support you with staying healthy.

But trying to cope with diabetes (or any other illness/dis-ease) alone can be very lonely, at times even dangerous. From all types of sources there is help and support available. Search for help.

What is the “message” your body is telling you? Your diagnosis is a WAKE-UP CALL and your body is telling you to take better care of it. Listen to yourself and pay attention as if you do, your life on an overall will get better.

By trying to live a life as if you don’t have this condition, you may become seriously ill, so don’t go into denial.

I know that I am getting spiritual here, but I always “assume” that “difficult” things in life have a purpose, a deeper meaning and that there are lessons within the experience for us to learn. I see the “bad” news as a gift, and that goes for most conditions. Learn the lessons, than the gift becomes obvious.

As far as the WAKE-UP CALL (I mentioned earlier) goes, quite often these things are signs for us that we need to make major changes in more than one area of our life. STOP and do a self-evaluation and find a way to work out how and in what areas of your life you need to make changes, be it maybe at work, looking after yourself or even in your relationship.

As I said so many times before, Knowledge protects – Ignorance endangers, so Educate Yourself!

Law of Life | Whatever Shall You Sow, So Shall You Reap

Law of Life | Whatever Shall You Sow, So Shall You Reap

Have you ever asked yourself what you are building? Is it a world of love? A world of Joy? Or a world of happiness? Or is it a world of fear? Hate? Judgement? Condemnation? We are as we think….and of course that’s the world we shape around ourselves!

Are you aware that your thoughts can darken just as easily as they can enlighten? Without a doubt, through thought it is possible to experience many things which we would otherwise not be able to comprehend and this is called true enlightenment. But than again, if we fully rationalise such things as love and beauty, faith and trust on the other hand, we can obscure it as well as obscuring and diminishing their value and also lessen the experiences. Can you see now how important it is that we know how to balance our thoughts? Watch your thoughts, be mindful of them.

Make the decision not to let your thinking stop you from being who you really are. We are NOT our “Ego”. By being observant of our thoughts, it is only then, when we will direct our thoughts through the consciousness of our being. That is the only way that we will bring about the things that we really desire. Most of our fears are coming from the “Ego” , which are fear based. We can learn to depart from our unconscious thoughts through watchfulness, by being alert. For example, irrational behaviour, when we try to rationalise it, we are “acting” the way of the “Ego”, and that isn’t the way to let our thoughts serve us and neither is it the way to serve to the greatest good of others.

Plan your thoughts – as they flow into manifestation.
Examine your thoughts – as they flow in consciousness
Think in consciousness – as you then live in joy, beauty and happiness
Visualise your thoughts – as they manifest , they become your reality.

“Whatever shall you sow – so shall you reap”, that IS the Law Of Life!

“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world.”
~ Buddha
